How To Apply For College?

The summer prior to your senior year in high school will be a busy one. By this time you have probably chosen several colleges you would like to attend, and it is time to start applying, but what exactly should you do in order to apply for college?

Find Out What You Need

The first step in your college application process should be to find out the requirements of each school. Different schools have different requirements, so making individual lists is an important step. Consult each college’s website or visit them directly to find out what you will need in order to apply. Also make sure to ask if they prefer you use their online application form, or would rather you send in paper documentation.

Fill Out The Application

Now that you know what each of your selected colleges requires, fill out the application forms taking care to use perfect grammar and spelling, so as not to cause a bad impression. Colleges review all applications in a very careful manner, so you have to make sure you make the least amount of mistakes possible. Don’t forget to add any additional documentation they may require, such as your art portfolio or a video.

The Essay

Most, if not all, colleges require you attach an essay or statement to the application form, and while you can use the same one for all your applications, make sure you go over it with your school counselor so it shows your true character traits and is well written. Don’t forget to take the time to choose a subject you feel comfortable with, and expand on the nature of your interest.

Should You Stay Within A Budget?

While a budget for college is a good starting point when selecting the schools you want to attend, the cost should not be a limitation, and applying to colleges you may be a good fit for, even if you can’t afford them, is always a good idea. There are many ways of getting financial aid to attend the college you have chosen, so don’t let that put a damper on your ambitions. Lastly, don’t forget to tell your school counselor what colleges you have applied for, as your transcripts will have to be forwarded to each one.
